Hero Burrito: The Restaurant

Hero Burrito: The Restaurant

FOOD 9/10

SERVICE 7/10

VALUE 7/10

ATMOSPHERE 5/10

OVERALL  8/10

I’ll admit, I don’t think I have seen many places successfully move from a takeaway into a full blown restaurant. The task may be daunting to some but Hero Burrito gave it a go and we were lucky enough to get a taste of things to come.  First impressions of the restaurant are promising; the foyer and bar area are modern and cool, the main dining area however is a little disappointing, as bright light and white shades seem an unfortunate contrast to the colour and warmth that first greeted you.  However we are no interior designers, far from it in fact, because if we were everything would be painted blue and have a hot tub garnished with Cheryl Cole in the corner.  But we are firm believers that food takes the starring role in a restaurant with everything else as a supporting cast.

FOOD

The menu is an evolution of the old takeaway; the established favourites of traditional burritos and Mexican influenced burgers are still present, along with an array of traditional and none conventional items. The dishes we decided on were the T-Bone Steak and the Ribs ‘n’ Wings Platter.  Firstly the steak; it was a decent chunk of cow and was cooked to absolute perfection. The flavour was fantastic, with pepper and garlic butter complementing the tender meat. The red onion rings were nice and spicy if not a little heavy on the salt.  The wedges were phenomenal and if you eat here you must give them a try. The homemade BBQ sauce that accompanied them was also nothing short of amazing.

As far as the ribs and wings go it was a startling mix of the sublime and distinctly average. The wings, for instance, were fantastic (if not lacking a little flavour) and slid off the bone like… The ribs, however were overcooked and tasted a bit burnt; despite this though they were still tasty and went perfectly with the superb spicy coleslaw and buttery corn on the cob. It is as good as it could have been without being great; a fantastic meal lacking the ‘X’ factor, showing potential but just not delivering the goods.

SERVICE

If it’s possible to try too hard with regards to service, I think Hero are almost there. The waiters, although friendly, couldn’t seem to find a professional distance. When the line was drawn however, the staff were efficient and constantly concerned for our hydration.

VALUE

Both meals were just over £10 in price and this was reflected in the quantity provided. Your plate will be lovely and full and afterwards, so will your belly.  Its not the cheapest around, but the quality reflects the price.

ATMOSPHERE

The restaurant is bright and clean, but the doctor’s surgery style blandness of the dining room lacks some of the atmosphere that it should have.

OVERALL

You will not be disappointed by this restaurant; the food is just beautiful and the portion size was enough to leave you wanting a little more, but magically filled you up once you left your seat.  It has the potential to be great, but only if the supporting cast step up to take the limelight as much as the food does.
